MEET DR. MARIE MATHESON

Dr. Marie is a Naturopathic doctor and co-founder of BioHeal Ottawa which opened in April, 2019. She graduated from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in 2005 and for the past decade was the senior ND at a local wellness clinic. Opening the BioHeal Ottawa clinic is a professional dream come true.

Grounded in general practice skills, Dr. Marie thinks of herself as somewhat of a health detective for chronic illnesses, specifically when it comes to figuring out the underlying causes of chronic illness. Within this field, she is particularly well known for her expertise in treating Lyme Disease.

Her willingness to freely share clinical pearls of wisdom among colleagues has led to her being a sought-after speaker at conferences. This, along with her professional reputation, lead to her being asked to be a recent author of a chapter within the Connie Strasheim’s ground-breaking book, New Paradigms in Lyme Disease.

It’s hard to improve on the Naturopathic refrain, “fix the terrain”, but this is the mission at the heart of Dr. Marie’s practice. She meets all her patients with the heartiest smile and an open mind.

MEET DR. Jesse pierce

Dr. Jesse Pierce, ND, Bsc., is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor who graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2007, and has been in practice in Ottawa since 2008. Dr. Jesse has a general family practice and has a special interest in treating complex chronic illness. She strives to provide an approach to your healthcare that is focused on you! The goal is to provide you with the information, resources, and motivation you need to get you back on the road to health.

Dr. Jesse’s approach is based on helping you understand the cause of your condition. By removing the cause and allowing your body to heal, you will improve your overall vitality. Dr. Pierce has been able to help many people overcome their symptoms and many types of illnesses such as Lyme and co-infections, auto-immune issues, severe acne, insomnia, digestive disturbances, anxiety and depression.

In addition to using lab reports and clinical examination, Dr. Jesse further employs the use of an assessment technique known as Auricular Medicine. This is an assessment tool to determine blockages that are preventing the body from healing.

In her practice she uses drainage, herbs, homeopathy, acupuncture, nutrition and lifestyle counselling as tools to facilitate change and improvements in her patient’s lives. More recently, Dr. Jesse has incorporated “neurofeedback” to help support optimal brain wellness (Learn about Neurofeedback here), as well as becoming a practitioner of the Elapromed system for naturopathic skin treatments (Learn about Elapromed here).

She is a member of both the Canadian association of Naturopathic Medicine and Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors.

Meet Dr. Erin O’Farrell

Erin received her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2002, following her Bachelor of Science from Queens University in Kingston. Continuing education has included homeopathic studies with Lou Klein and Rajan Sankaran, Pregnancy and Acupuncture and Bowen Therapy.  Her general family practice encourages wellness for the entire family using a combination of Nutrition and Lifestyle counseling, Constitutional Homeopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Herbal Medicine and Bowen Therapy.

She has a special interest in all areas of Women’s Health. She has worked extensively with a variety of concerns, including gastrointestinal complaints (IBS, chronic constipation, diarrhea, IBD), women’s health (menstruation, menopause, fertility, pregnancy), skin conditions, learning difficulties, coughs and colds, asthma, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety and chronic pain.

Naturopathic medicine is a journey. Of discovery, support and wellness. Naturopathic medicine seeks to determine the root cause of a departure from optimal health. And utilizes healing methods which work with the body’s innate ability to heal, and substances which are found in nature.  Wonderful things happen when we gain clarity on the interplay between the many factors – including lifestyle, diet, mental/emotional, genetic and environment – which affect our overall health and well being.

It is my mission to help you gain this clarity through thorough discussion of your health concerns and goals, by examining dietary and lifestyle factors, by uncovering possible food sensitivities and nutrient deficiencies, by performing lab testing as necessary, by looking together at the important way in which our mind impacts our body and vice versa, and by supporting mental/emotional health, stressors and life situation.

Erin stays busy and happy in her spare time with dance, yoga, hiking, reading, cross-country skiing and her wonderful son.

MEET DR. Erin Kasparek

Dr Erin Kasparek is a Naturopathic Doctor accepting patients in the Ottawa area. After graduating from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, she became a licensed practitioner with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO). She has further training in pediatric care, biomedical treatment for autism, bio-identical hormone prescribing, injection nutrient therapy, as well as doula training to support women in labour.

She believes that the body is like a puzzle, and investigating dietary factors, nutritional deficiencies, organ system function, hormonal health and lifestyle factors makes all the difference in finding the root. Addressing the root causes of symptoms allows for lasting resolution, empowerment through understanding the body’s signals and in promoting a feeling vitality and optimal wellness.

Meet Bryce Matheson

For the past five years Bryce has worked in the same clinic as Dr. Marie Matheson, ND, administering therapies for a majority of her chronically ill patients to stimulate their detoxification. He understands the frustrations of those with chronic illnesses, he's heard their stories countless times. But, he's seen people heal. Each year Bryce has added a new modality to his services.

It started when Bryce heard from Lyme patients about a machine that was having tremendous results. After a great deal of research he was off to Europe to purchase an AN-DI Energetic Corrector system. It was followed with intensive training in Germany. It’s able to rejuvenate cell potential and greatly affect cell detoxification. The following year, he added PEMF system services and started incorporating this to further aid gentle and longer-term detoxification for the same client base.  Since then he has attended a conference from Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt and attained levels I & II of his Autonomic Response Testing (ART) technique, plus he incorporated neurotherapy (by way of the Crosby Cam system).

This clinic is an exciting moment for myself and my wife, Dr. Marie Matheson, as we will be able to offer a suite of therapeutic modalities that will help future patients to heal faster. My interest in this field is ever evolving and I can’t wait to welcome you all to BioHeal Ottawa.

Meet Andrea McMurtry

Expertise:  Live Cell Microscopy and Electrodermal Screening Technology

As with all the practitioners at BioHeal, Andrea McMurtry fits the mould of a holistic practitioner.

“Think of an iceberg,” Andrea suggests. “When we observe an individual, it’s like viewing only the iceberg’s tip. But to truly understand we need to look far below the surface.  That’s where I start, at the root cause, by examining your blood.”

Live Cell Microscopy looks at the cells and the terrain that they’re bathed in. With the aid of a video camera and large monitor this service can reveal certain subtleties missed by laboratory blood tests.

“My work in live blood cell analysis really compliments the work being done by BioHeal’s team of doctors in cases involving complex chronic illnesses.”

Microbes are abundant in our system, working symbiotically, creating our internal ecosystem. But apathogenic microbes can become pathogenic if the terrain allows them to. Live blood analysis differs from traditional medical blood testing in which preserved blood is sent to a laboratory for an “autopsy” and analyzed for chemical composition and cell counts. Live blood microscopy involves magnifying a single living drop of blood to 1,000 times or more under a microscope.

Andrea’s further training in electrodermal screening technology provides an in-house avenue for the increasingly popular area of food and environmental sensitivity testing.  She truly is a holistic detective.

Andrea received her certificate in live cell microscopy from Edison Institute of Nutrition as well as further Electrodermal Screening training. Her goal is for you to feel and live your best version of you.
